Enter the 2007 Whidbey Island Writers Conference Art Competition.
ELIGIBILITY: All Whidbey Island residents and Whidbey Island Writers Association members 16 years of age and older are eligible to submit an original art piece they have produced. Judges and their families are not eligible.
THEME: Writing on Whidbey
MEDIA: Any two-dimensional media will be considered, transferable into a format suitable for printed application.
SIZE AND ORIENTATION: We prefer vertical artwork with a height to width ratio of 11:7, or a circular or square format. Rectangular art pieces should be no larger than 11x 14. Square art pieces should be 12 inches or smaller on a side. Circular pieces should have a diameter no larger than 12 inches.
PREPARATION OF ENTRIES: Entries should be submitted as unmounted printed samples, e.g., color laser proofs, digital inkjet prints, photographic prints, paper or plastic mounted 35mm slides, transparencies, or original artwork. NO GLASS MOUNTS. Please mark “Top” and “Front” on all slides and transparencies. Please indicate orientation of any entry that may not be obvious. We cannot be responsible for damage or loss of any entry. All contestants grant the Whidbey Island Writers Association affiliates permission to use and/or reproduce their entries in materials relating to the contest, on our website(s) and elsewhere. The name of the artist may not appear on the art piece submitted. Affix a contest form to the back of the art submitted.
DELIVERY OF ENTRIES: Entries may be mailed, hand delivered, or sent electronically. Please send entries via US mail to WIWA – PO Box 1289, Langley, WA 98260.

To be eligible, all entries must be postmarked by July 29 or received in our office by 4 p.m. August 1, 2006.
ENTRY FEES AND FORMS: There is a $5.00 fee per entry. A completed official entry form must be affixed to each piece. If you are entering slides or transparencies, please insert them into plastic sleeves and tape the entry form to the back of the sleeve.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RECEIPT OF ENTRIES: As soon as reasonably possible after we receive your package, we will send an acknowledgment to you via e-mail. If you do not have an e-mail address, the acknowledgement will be sent via postal mail.
JUDGING: A panel of Whidbey Island artists will convene in August 2006 to judge entries. Entries will be judged on overall aesthetics, thematic relevance, originality, and suitability for the conference. Their decision will be final.
FINAL DETERMINATION : The winner will be announced August 15, 2006. At that time, the winning artist agrees to grant to the Whidbey Island Writers Association full use of the original art in conjunction with the 2007 Whidbey Island Writers Conference. This will include publicity, program, and other uses as the Conference Director determines. The winning artist will be invited to meet the Board of Directors of the Whidbey Island Writers Association and the Conference Director for a promotional photograph. After the winning artist has been announced, other artists may pick up their entries in our business office during normal business hours. We cannot be responsible for loss, damage or return of artwork.
AWARDS: The winning artist will receive a registration to the 2007 conference. This registration is transferable. Other benefits include artist’s credits printed on all the promotional materials and in the conference program. In addition, the artist’s name will appear on all reproductions of the piece produced by the Whidbey Island Writers Association.
