Gail Madden, president, holds a masters degree in Public Administration from Seattle University and until her retirement in 2000 was the Administrator for Primary and Specialty Medicine at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System. Her work has been published in two short story anthologies of the Whidbey Writers Group, and she has won awards in both fiction and poetry in the Sno-Isle Celebrate Writing Contest.

Sherry Mays, vice president, received her BA in Journalism from the University of Nevada and has edited for both Dive and Travel magazines. She wrote and edited for a weekly newspaper with a circulation of over 10,000 subscribers. Sherry is currently the Publisher of the South Whidbey Record and the managing editor for On! Whidbey magazine. She has also been active with the South Whidbey Commons project.

Ned Goodhue, secretary earned a BA in economics and an MBA in finance from Harvard and a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California. He has been on the faculty of the Harvard Business School and INSEAD (France) where he taught accounting, finance, and international finance. He's been a consultant to both entrepreneurial as well as Fortune 500 companies, and has been a founder or senior executive in firms in the health care, insurance, and international finance fields. He currently writes full time and is an active member of WIWA's critique groups.

Bill Russell, treasurer, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley. He has extensive experience as a senior manager in the telecommunication industry where he was responsible for sales and customer service. Bill was also responsible for the development of training, methods and procedures. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy and is the president of the board of the Senior Services of Island County.

Candace Allen, former principal for the international consulting firm William M. Mercer, established the company's Pacific Northwest communications consulting practice and served as Mercer's national communication practice leader. A founding member of the WIWA conference team and a past secretary of WIWA's board of directors, she established WIWA's newsletter, served as editor three years, helped develop WIWA's data base system and Web site, and is currently the content manager for WIWA's Web site. A graduate of the University of Washington, Allen earned accreditation from the International Association of Business Communicators and won numerous business communication awards, including Crain Publications' national Award of Excellence. Allen has written many features for Log Home Living and Log Home Design, and has published with Sail, Cruising World, MotorHome, Sea and a variety of regional magazines and newspapers.

Linda Beeman, past treasurer of the WIWA board of directors, is a former editor of The Book Club of Washington Journal and an experienced writer and editor. She recently completed work on a historical guide for a walking tour of Langley, Washington. Beeman has published a number of articles on Asian textiles in specialty journals. She is the founder and owner of Material Possessions, a gallery in Seattle specializing in antique textiles from Southeast Asia. She has lived in New Zealand and has written and published about her travels in Bhutan.

Cameron Castle is the vice president and owner of Angland/Castle and Associates and has 23 years sales and marketing experience in the restaurant and hospitality industry. He has written numerous plays and directed a Dinner Theater production of Noel Coward's Private Lives. Cameron was awarded second place in the nonfiction category of the WIWC Benefactor's Writing Contest 2005. He has a degree is in political science from WWU where he minored in philosophy and theatre.

Jerry Mercer, former secretary of the board, is a graduate of the University of Washington and was an engineer and manager with Boeing Aircraft. He is the author of many technical aircraft articles and documents in his field. In 2004 he wrote and published One Hundred Years at Greenbank - a History of the Greenbank Farm. Jerry has won awards in the Sno-Isle Writing Contest and is currently working on a nautical novel set in the revolutionary war period. He is also the editor of a humor anthology for Whidbey Island writers.

Nancy Ruff, EdD, MFA advisory board chair holds a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Master of Arts in educational administration from Texas Tech University and a Doctor of Education from North Texas State University. During her 30-year career in education, she was a public school speech, drama and English teacher; a consultant in accreditation with the Texas State Department of Education; director of communications for a large suburban Dallas school district; and adjunct professor of speech communications in the College of Business at the University of Texas, Arlington. She is an experienced conference planner; professional development coordinator; speaker at local, state and national levels; and contributor to professional publications. In addition to her activities with the Whidbey Island Writers Association and Whidbey Writers Workshop, Ruff is on the board of the South Whidbey Schools Foundation. She is a founding member of the WIWA conference team.

Susan Wilmoth, founding member of WIWA and former secretary of the board, brings 21 years of legal, administrative and organizational experience to the Whidbey Island Writers Association. She currently works for an attorney in Langley and serves on the boards of the Everett Civic Music Community Concerts and the Whidbey Island Chorale. Wilmoth is currently working on a collection of short stories, poetry and…the great American novel.
