MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts in its program leading to the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing to provide instruction and mentoring of developing authors to further their mastery of the art and craft of writing; to contribute to the continuing maturation of authors in their career-long advancement; to develop writers who practice the highest standards and value of their craft and who engage in the profession fully through writing, submitting and publishing; and to explore and develop alternative techniques in the instruction and distance-learning methods of teaching creative writing.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

To produce productive, publishing writers who are prepared for a life of writing; to prepare graduates to participate in the local, regional and national community of writers; to prepare graduates to articulate their understanding of the process of writing, whether in essays, informal or formal teaching or otherwise.
