STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Accommodations for students with disabilities
The Whidbey Writers Workshop will attempt to accommodate students with disabilities where reasonable for all Residencies and public programs taking place at the Institute. Students with hearing or sight impairment must arrange for assistance in note-taking on their own, but the Institute will attempt to accommodate their needs where reasonable. Students must be able to participate in Online courses and to attend Residencies, for there are no available substitutes for those two requirements.
Advising
The Program Director serves as the chief advisor. Advising takes place both in person during Residencies and online or through e-mail throughout the year. Through its membership in Associated Writing Programs, the MFA Program makes available a wide range of information including the AWP Job Listing, the AWP Writers Chronicle, and the AWP Annual Meeting.
Financial Aid
At this time, the Whidbey Writers Workshop does not have its own scholarship programs.
Library
In a low-residency program such as ours, during the regular semester students will use a combination of online library resources and libraries near their homes. The Whidbey Writers Workshop web site will maintain links to major online library resources.
Placement Services
The Whidbey Writers Workshop has no Placement Service of its own due to its small size, but encourages students to use the Associated Writing Programs Placement File Service or to rely on the Placement Service at the student's undergraduate college. The Whidbey Writers Workshop will subscribe to both the Associated Writing Programs and Modern Language Association Job Lists and those will be available to students. Faculty and the MFA Program Director will also advise students throughout the program on employment opportunities for writers.
Student Handbook
The student handbook, titled "Student Rights and Responsibilities," contains information about student rights and responsibilities, including procedures for disciplinary action, complaints, grievances, etc. A copy is included on the Whidbey Writers Workshop web site and as the final item in the Workshop's printed Catalogue.
